Nobody Searches for “Energy-Efficient Home Builder”

So we built the demand instead

Charis Homes

The situation

Charis Homes builds a house you can measure. Their homes are certified by the U.S. Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency, inspected independently, and built to standards most builders don't attempt.

Almost nobody shops for a house that way. Over ten months of advertising, the search "energy efficient home builder ohio" put a Charis ad on screen four times. "Zero energy ready home" never came up at all.

You can't capture demand that isn't there. You have to build it.

What we did

We put the promise in the ad, not in the search.

People type "custom home builders near me" and "build on your land." Those are the searches we showed up for — but every ad promised something specific: high-performance homes, healthier indoor air. The click did the qualifying before anyone reached the website.

We used events to say what an ad can't.

Seminars and open houses — Build with Confidence, The Blueprint to Building Success, Cocoa at the Clubhouse — filled through Facebook and Instagram. A room is where a technical advantage can actually be explained.

What happened

Eight out of every hundred people who see a Charis ad in Google search click it.

The bigger result took four years to arrive: people now look for Charis Homes by name. When they do, one in three clicks straight through — and those visits turn into inquiries far more reliably than any other search in the account. That is the difference between renting attention and having earned it.

Facebook and Instagram have brought another 12,000 people to the website.

In their words

"We build a house you can measure. Glue found the way to make that matter to people who didn't know yet that they should care."

— Glenna Wilson, Charis Homes

What's next

Four years in, the work still changes shape as the business does. That's the arrangement.
